Dear
Friends,
Our musical evening at Muse Winery was truly a successful one. It was a real
joy to listen to a high caliber performance by the ever so talented Michael
Drislane.
The
unique and intimate setting of the winery really gave everyone a rare
opportunity to listen to a great artist up close. Michael also treated us with
some of his dazzling improvisations. The delightful selection of Muse wines
paired with the appetizers and the music definitively made up for a magical
night! Thank you to all of you who were able to join us on Friday.
Rest assured: we are
going to plan for more events at this wonderful venue!

It's been a
Medal Year for Muse Winery. Along with the Gold at the All Canadian Wine
Awards earlier this year for the 2008 Pinot Gris, we've just received 2 new
medals. We've got the details below...

Muse Winery wins 2 Bronze
Medals at The Wine Access - Canadian Wine Awards
November
2009
The Wine Access Canadian Wine Awards is Canada's leading national wine
competition open to all wines that are 100 percent Canadian grown, fermented and
bottled. Since its inception in 2001, the Canadian Wine Awards quickly became
the most important competition for Canadian wine in the country. A great deal of
prestige is involved in capturing any of the major awards, including the coveted
Wine Access Canadian Winery of the Year title.
Muse Winery's 2006 Merlot and 2008 Viognier were both awarded the Bronze
Medal in this Canada wide competition.

BC Wine Label Award Winner Announced
today in Penticton - Oct. 9, 2009

The BC Wine Museum & VQA Wine Shop announced the winners of the 2009 British
Columbia Wine Label Awards this afternoon in Penticton at the Wine Medal
Award Winners Reception. Wayne Wilson, Executive Director of the BC Wine
Museum, announced the winners and presented the awards as part of the Okanagan
Fall Wine Festival festivities.
This past August and September, wineries from across the province submitted
their wine label designs to be judged in three different categories:
Domestic Label, Overall Presentation, and Dessert Wine. Criteria for each
category looked at such things as the visual appeal of a label, creativity,
label content, and even the legibility of label text. All entries were also
entered into the People's Choice category and put on display at the BC Wine
Museum for public voting.
This year's judges were: John Schreiner, author and wine columnist; Stewart
Turcotte, owner of Hambleton Galleries; and Lisa Olson, editor and publisher
of Orchard & Vine Magazine.
The 2009 BC Wine Label Award Winners are:
Domestic Label: GOLD Chandra Estate 2004 Pinot Blanc (Oliver) SILVER
Summerhill Cipes Gabriel (Kelowna)
BRONZE Muse 2006 Cabernet Merlot (North Saanich)

The New Face of Muse
Winery
Times Colonist- Sept. 17, 2009
Visitors to Muse Winery will be greeted at 11195 Chalet
Road by a new face…

The change from Chalet to Muse takes more than just time.
It’s not only a new label, it’s a new image, new ambiance, all while continuing
the care of the vineyard and attention to all the elements of making
handcrafted award winning wines. While the highway signs Wine Tour signs are
still showing Chalet, the unveiling of the new sign at the winery took place
last week. Muse Winery owners, Peter and Jane Ellmann, commissioned artist David
Hunwick after he held a sculpting course at the winery this spring. They wanted
an original piece to replace the old Chalet , that would be unique and represent
the likeness of the Muse mermaid designed by Andrew Lewis. David created the
piece by sculpting in clay relief on a plywood board. The process then
required a rubber mould to cover the piece and then a fibreglass mould over
that. Two resin casts were made, one for each side and then laminated onto a
lightweight board. The piece was then hand finished, the patina applied and a
final clear lacquer was sprayed over both sides. The Ellmanns are thrilled with
the finished piece. It’s one more step towards completing the changeover to
Muse Winery and shows off the talents of local artist David Hunwick.

Provence on the Pacific- The area
just outside Victoria, B.C., is rich with orchards, artisanal cheeses and
wineries
By Margo Pfeiff, The Ottawa Citizen,
June 13, 2009
Excerpt from the article- "I lingered over nibbles on the dining patio
alongside the vineyard at Muse Wines, entertained and informed by the dynamic
duo of owners Peter (the winemaker and with 30 years in California under his
belt) and Jane (the muse) Ellmann. Muse's organic wines run the gamut from
Gewurztraminer to Maréchal Foch -- my favourite was the Viognier."
